Wallace and Hobbs 2.4 – Latent Heat

by Joe Archive on August 4, 2008

2.4 Latent Heatbr /br /Heat energy is absorbed/released without change of temperature when a substance changes phase – this is referred to as latent heat, and is due to the change in internal energy associated with the alteration of the configuration of the internal parts of the system.br /br /The most important latent heats from our perspective are those of water going from gas to liquid and liquid to solid phasesbr /br /L_vap = 2.5×10^6 J/kgbr /br /L_fus = 3.34×10^5 J/kg
